Frequently Asked Questions

For most people being on camera is a new experience, and can be a little daunting. There is no need to be nervous, after all, this is your show!

  • Imagine if you had a video interview of your Great-Great Grandparent telling you about the life they lived. It would be special, wouldn’t it? You may not consider the life you have lived as remarkable, but it will be a very different life to that of future generations. Video is unique because so much personality, mannerisms, and spirit can be shown. If you are unsure, ask younger members of the family how they would feel about having your story on film.

  • No, if you have another location in mind please discuss this with us so we can best advise the suitability of the location.

Film My Memoirs does not offer any studio recording services currently. Videos are shot on location.

  • The proposed questions will be agreed prior to filming. There is no obligation to answer a question or talk about a time in your life you do not wish to. You decide what you want to talk about.

  • No! The interview can be in any language you want, however it does potentially limit the postproduction products on offer if the interview is in another language. Contact us to discuss your circumstances and language of choice. We will advise how we can support.

  • We do not generally recommend a couple be interviewed together unless it is for a specific purpose such as a Message Through Time available when ordering two separate interviews for the same booking. Your spouse/partner can be in the room off screen for moral support if that helps. If you have further questions or want to discuss anything, then please email us: filmmymemoirs@outlook.com

  • For a standard recording session we recommend a 4 hour appointment. This includes 30-60 minutes of set up and any breaks the client needs when filming. If this is too long or a person has specific need. We can adjust the recording duration and implement any accommodations required.

  • No, your memoirs are private and Film My Memoirs will not distribute or use your story as portfolio without informed consent.

  • We encourage people to involve their friends and family in this process, however we only recommend 1-2 adults are present when recording. If you want to have a person younger than 18 present, this is possible but be aware that they will need to sit silently for up to several hours.

  • This is up to you, you tell your story!

We aim to have a friendly chat with you before filming so we can get an idea of the following:

    A) The questions to prompt you with.

    B) What chapters of your life you want to cover.

For example: childhood, family history, your career, meeting your spouse, achieving something significant to you, NHS/Police/Fire/Military Service, funny stories of your youth, the story of someone who inspired you, lessons you have learnt in your life.

    C) What memories you have of significant moments in history.

For example: WW2, creation of the NHS, Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation, Swinging Sixties, The Beatles, etc!

If there is a period of your life you do not want to talk that will be respected.

  • If you would prefer to be interviewed by a friend or family member this can happen. We would prefer to have a phone call with the proposed interviewer to advise on interview techniques to help get the best recording on the day and discuss questions.

  • No, we offer audio recording if you do not want to be on camera..

  • Unless it is an assistance animal, we ask that for health and safety reasons pets are not in the room. If the pet is prone to making noise, we recommend they are moved away from the location for a clear audio recording.

  • Yes, but it is not generally preferable. This interview is likely to be 3 hrs approximately. The sun, wind, and rain could significantly affect the lighting and sound of the recording, so it is advisable to film in a location that is reliable.

  • Please get in contact to discuss your idea! filmmymemoirs@outlook.com

We will record this and give it to the interviewee but we are not responsible for any future distribution and it is not a substitution for a will or statement of intention.
